I’ve been working with video formats for over 20 years. In the early 2000s, I ran a tape-to-digital conversion service in Van Nuys (“Tape To Digital”), working with both consumer and professional formats. Today, I still handle every transfer personally using modern, calibrated equipment and real-time monitoring; nothing is batch processed, shipped out, or handed off to third parties. Your tapes stay local and in my possession from drop-off to pickup.
Typical turnaround is 3–7 business days depending on quantity and tape condition. If you’re on a deadline, ask; I can sometimes accommodate rush turnaround based on workload.
Yes, I can convert PAL VHS tapes. At the moment, PAL support is available for VHS only (PAL Hi8, PAL MiniDV, and other PAL formats aren’t supported yet).
I can often fix minor issues (broken shells, stuck tape, simple mechanical problems) for an additional fee. Tapes with mold, heavy residue, or shedding oxide require specialized restoration. If you suspect any of those issues, contact me before drop-off so I can advise on safe next steps.
Not through standard digitizing. Tapes with mold, heavy residue, warped shells, or severe brittleness can damage equipment and risk the footage. If you see mold/white powder, flakes, or the tape feels fragile, contact me first; I can help assess options.
No. After you receive your files and confirm everything looks good, I delete the working copies unless you request extended storage.
Standard transfers are captured at 720×480 (NTSC) or 720×576 (PAL) using calibrated decks, with S-Video used whenever available for the cleanest picture. Files are delivered as MP4s that play on TVs, computers, and phones.
Digital delivery is included via a secure download link. If you prefer a physical copy, you can provide a new or freshly formatted USB flash drive.
Yes. To keep transfers reliable and avoid file issues, any client-provided USB or external drive should be new or freshly formatted before copying.
